German SAP had chosen Ackee as one of the five participants of a hackathon that run during the SAP CONNECT 2018 conference. The goal was to demonstrate what the teams were able to create with the new SAP Mobile Platform SDK and the whole SAP Cloud Platform.
Two years ago, my colleagues participated in a weekend hackathon and came up with an idea to create a Rock-Paper-Scissors game for Facebook messenger. The real-world RPS game is simple and pretty much everyone knows how to play it. The mobile app didn’t aim to add cool new ways to play the game and tried to be as simple as possible.
In January 2018 we hosted a Fake news themed hackathon at our place in Karlín. We organized this nearly 24-hours-long meeting together with Endowment Fund for Independent Journalism and Open Society Fund, so that the programmers could cooperate with data analysts, designers and journalist to enrich their own projects.
We won a tender for a new application for the German Bundestag. Our work is fully in process now and the app will be released in autumn 2018. However, we will introduce some details about the application right now!
My summer at Ackee was all about a mobile application for one of the biggest logistics company. In a nutshell: a big company, large stores, storekeepers, trucks, drivers, pallets and all the rest that comes to your minds when thinking of transport. Not excluding the massive amount of administration, of course. Drivers obviously love the administrative work, because after driving, loading the goods, sending messages with codes, waiting in traffic jams, finding a parking space in the center of Prague (which also includes fighting over it with another driver) and finally unloading the truck, there is nothing more enjoyable than using the remaining time to do the paperwork. If this sounds like a sarcasm to you, you are right. A truck driver’s job is very hard and stressful, even without the paperwork and the duty of putting all the details down one by one.
Every June, Ackee is celebrating its birthday. This year’s was fifth and so we wanted to make it special and decided to give a present to somebody who needs it more than we do. We have chosen the Center for Deaf Kids Tamtam and we will create an app for a million crown for them.
After a success with award-winning Photoshape we were thinking how to push this great idea even further. After hours and hours of brainstorming it suddenly struck us. We spent hours every day chatting with our friends on WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook etc. but what do we have at our disposal? Just boring plain text and few tiny emojis. We knew that we can do better. That we can give users new way to have fun with their friends while they’re chatting.
